Jake Creek has applied the business skills he has learned in his time at the Rutgers–Camden Business School program in a profitable way—by starting a Tie Dye T-shirt company, Lazy Lightning Dyes.
Working towards his Business Administration degree, Creek studies at the Rutgers Statewide Program at Brookdale Community College, which allows him to conveniently receive a degree from Rutgers Business School at Camden. In the future, he hopes to have his company blossom into something bigger, harboring goals of eventually having a storefront.
Creek started his company while taking time off from school, looking to begin taking college more seriously. Now, at 28, he is surprised about how far it has gotten. @Lazylightningdyes has over 11 thousand Instagram followers, and has even been featured on the Grateful Dead’s merchandising site. A long-running interest in jam bands like the Dead is what drew Creek towards a business that focuses on designing perfect concert attire.
“Just doing this myself has been educational,” says Creek. Taking classes also put him in the right direction, but starting his own business has sparked genuine interest in the detailed work that goes into running a company.
